Ministry
We are frequently asked "What does your community do?"
The Order of St. Benedictine was not founded for any specific work; the purpose of a Benedictine community is to enable its members to seek God. The needs of the religious community and of the wider community determine what ministries may be served by the sisters as they live out this Benedictine charism. Our prayer, lectio divina and the Liturgy of the Hours, is the source from which our ministry flows.
At this time, Our Lady of Peace members are engaged in parish ministry, administration, pastoral care, teaching, nursing, homemaking, prison ministry, and counseling. Each sister chooses her ministry in a process of dialogue with the prioress and the other sisters. The prioress considers her skills, aptitude, education, enthusiasm and
the contribution that this ministry will make to strengthen our religious community and the needs of the church and society. Each sister is encouraged to develop secondary interests such as art or music which enhance the quality of life. All of these activities are subordinate to the efforts, personal and communal, to grow in a spirit of praise and wonder at the goodness of God: that in all things God may be glorified.
